You really don't need it for Linux to be honest unless you want to virus protect your email server from viruses that could harm your email clients. Just don't ever use your computer as root to browse the web and you should be fine. The viruses you get can not do anything to your system because you do not have root privileges (hence giving the virus root privilege).
There are about 40 known Linux viruses since 1988 all of which can not harm your system if you get them without root privileges. Compared to the 90 thousand known viruses for windows.
I ran Fedora Core1 for 4 years strait without a virus and my brother did nothing but go to porn and download music and movies. No virus and no problems. Even his accounts stayed up and running with no problem.

what do you need one for? Pointless to have one....... if you want one anyway try f-prot. although i dont think you need one.
