Well it should take off only nasty things like viruses which it is supposed to.

Disc? Or software. Usually they'll just take note of anything personal and use it for advertising purposes (ex: spyware). But they don't actually take anything off your machine... maybe if they're some nobody company out to get people.

Oops, and if you mean viruses and worms- yes... they'll pretty much take care of that. But they're not 100%. Nothing is. Just make sure you are up to date. Sometimes using other things like Ad-Aware and ZoneAlarm in conjunction can help too.
