The only problem I have with AVG is it sets the scheduler by default, which scans your hard drive every night. This will put a LOT of wear-and-tear on your hard drive with very little benefit. Having real time protection enabled is generally good enough. I would advise disabling the scheduled scan, or change it to scan once a month.
