AVG they say is short for Anti Virus Guard, does this program Guard your PC - answer "NO".

Anyone with any computer knowledge will tell you that AVG stands for AVeraGe, the average of 100% is 50% that's the same odd's of flicking a coin in the air %26 calling heads or tails.

So will AVG stop, find or remove viruses, just flick a coin %26 call.

If there was a standard set for AV programs then AVG would not be able to call it's self an anti virus program - that standard should be set at 90% (or higher) detection %26 removal.

It is good enough for personal use. I will give it a 7 / 10. However, Avast and Active Virus Shield are better free substitutes (they are resource hogs too).

I find it very good. It finds viruses and upates itself every day. Its worth having if you dont want to pay a wad for some of the other ones.
According to competent independent comparative tests, AVG's virus and malware detection is pretty dismal at best. Many will recommend it because it is free, but the vast majority wouldn't know a virus from a peanut butter sandwich.

If you are looking for a free AV program with a high detection rate, I would recommend AOL's Active Virus Shield, which is actually Kaspersky Anti-Virus. It's probably the only good thing that AOL ever did. You do not have to have an AOL account to download it as it is made free for all that wish to use it. It uses very little resources and it's detection rate is extremely high, much higher than AVG.
