Do I need an Antivirus for Mac OS?

Here is a great link that will allow you to come to your own conclusion.

I personally do not use anti-virus software, but am aware of the risks involved if I encounter one. Always have a backup.

Good Luck

In a word, No. Mac OSX is extremely secure, and as far as I know, there have only EVER been 5 viruses for Apple Macs, as opposed to 1000000's for windows based machines.

(The first ever was discovered in 2006).

I have been running on OSX 10.4 since March, and havn't had a problem. I also know that if you ask in an Apple Store, the entire staff will tell you they don't have antivirus.

A tip though: Make backups.

You are far more likely with OSX to lose your data due to a broken Hard-Disk or similar. If you copy your important stuff to another hard disk or to some DVDs every now and then, your data will be restorable!

I WOULD SUGGEST A FREE ONE LIKE AVG SO THAT JUST IN THE UNLIKLEY CASE THAT YOU GET A VIRUS IT WILL STOP IT FROM REACHING YOUR SYSTEM REGISTRY
no you dont need it
