Recommendations for a GOOD Antivirus program?

My subscription to WinAntiVirus has expired. I am reluctant to renew, not happy with this one. It takes too long to run the scan and slows all other applications down, e.g. browser responses, email etc. I need to install an alternative immediately to have protection. Serious tried/tested info please.

But diversity is the best bet. If everyone had THE BEST, then the hackers would go after it's weak point. So from time to time, a different one is BEST.

I do admit that if you use a MICROSOFT product, that will be the worst, since hackers will concentrate on destroying that one. So it is in Microsoft's best interest to encourage other developers to create the anti-virus solutions.

I also do not believe that Windows Vista will be any improvement. Again, it will be riddled with security risks, and a whole new flock of anti-virus solutions will be required.

Think about this. If you are using Windows 95/98/ME, the risks are lower, because the hackers have given up on making viruses against it. Using Windows 2000 is a lower risk than Windows XP for the same reason. Windows XP will finally get better when people FLOCK in hopes to get something good out of Windows Vista.... and Vista will certainly suck.

So my advice, don't be the first sucker to switch to Windows Vista. Plan on joining that mad house in about two years after it's final release. Maybe you would pick it up after SP2 is released.

I have heard this from a computer wise person, all of the antivirus out on the market are about the same. Six of one, and a half dozen of the other. I use the free antivirus by AVAST.

I run Norton's and AVG. What one doesn't catch the other usually does. Yahoo offers a free anti-spy program that is also helpful. It is a free download. I run it daily to remove spyware. Good luck.

im using norton antivirus since 1998, and it never fails on preventing/removing virus. i have also installed NAV on our internet cafe computers, since then no virus exists on our pc.

antivirus and spyware programs, if you are looking for a free antivirus and spyware, well I have been using these two for the last month or so, on a trial by myself, and so far, they are as good as any, that I have tried, if not better, since installing them they have picked up any and all known viruses and spyware.

The spyware impressed me, when I installed a torrent tool bar, that was full of spyware it not only removed the spyware it removed the tool bar as well, which impressed me.

The two programs are AVAST home and SPYWARE TERMINATOR; I would recommend these two programs to protect your systems.

Definitely get Live OneCare 2.0.

I use it and it works great. I've had no problems. Simple to use, clean, and you can even back-up some photos for free.

I also use it's PC hub function, where I can monitor up to 2 other PC's to check their health. Plus, who else knows their system more than Microsoft? OneCare is designed to integrate with Windows.

Norton 360 is basically a copy of it. Plus it cost more as well.

OneCare cost about $50 a year (and in some cases, $15), Norton 360 is $70.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
